It’s okay that you’re ditching laundry and room cleaning in favor of lying in bed focusing on self-soothing. You overestimated your energy reserves, and now you’re choosing to prioritize taking care of yourself so you can stand to go out with family this evening, since you can’t get out of that. Really, it’s fine. We’ll make due on the pants front until we have a chance to catch up on laundry, and you’re not a horrible person for letting the mess start to pile up again. This is probably going to happen when the depressive bouts do. Don’t blame yourself as a bad person for putting off responsibilities that can afford to wait in favor of rest when you need it. Your wellbeing is more important than a clear floor. Future us can pick up the slack; she’ll have the energy to spare. She understands. Just take a nap or play a videogame or do some light reading. You’re allowed.

I just want to give my two cents on this and tell you a story.

A couple weeks ago, I was hired at Target. I have a job at Target. Not a big deal right?

It is a big deal because i’m a transman.

It doesn’t take a genius to conclude that it’s hard for me, my brothers, and sisters to get a job. There are legal restraints regarding the job and if you don’t pass, it’s hard to be taken seriously at a job interview.

Right on the application, it asks what your preferred name is. It also asks if there is anything that target should know. I put the fact that I am a transman, expecting not to get a call because usually when you put that down, people will throw out the application. I got TWO interviews.

At the interview, they asked me about it. I told them I am on hormones and they told me that they didn’t care. Not in the sense that they don’t emotionally care, but that it didn’t matter. I was male and that’s all that mattered. They also told me that they give sex same couples benefits in states that do not recognize them as a married couple.

At my job orientation, I was not misgendered once. Even my supervisors who weren’t sure of my gender avoided pronoun use, which I found only happens when you’ve had pronoun training. They gave me a name tag with my preferred name and didn’t ask questions. I felt safe and respected, which is huge for a trans* person.

TLDR: Target is amazing not just for the LGB, but also the T. Shop there for the rest of your life.

Whelp, I’m buying everything from Target.

Wow.

Not super down with the brothers-and-sisters bit in norsegays’ post (non-binary folks exist, y’all; let’s not erase them, especially when celebrating acceptance and support of GSMs), but fuck yeah, Target!

Color me surprised to have some good news and a nice story. I’m glad a large corporation like Target is making the changes necessary to be more inclusive and safe.

I was reading hyperbole and a half’s blog entry explaining their experience of depression and decided to make another sketchy comic based on my experiences with anxiety, which is another mental illness I think people tend to misunderstand quite frequently

Hopefully this will be of use to some people - whether they suffer from anxiety themselves or if they just want to know more about it

Accurate. I’ve had anxiety my entire life. I’ve learned how to cope and it doesn’t effect me as often, or severe as it use to - but it is always there, and it always will be. I’m getting better at admitting when I am feeling anxious, and really just patience and understanding helps me the most when I feel this way.

So accurate.

Last night, I had a panic attack while sitting in line at a toll road. This happens a lot - I tend to panic when I feel trapped and unable to get out of the situation I’m in. When I do that, I call my dad and he talks to me and helps me calm down by asking me about other stuff and listening. He never says “calm down” or “stop worrying,” but just asks me what I’m feeling and tells me I will be okay. He also will ask me what I can do to get out of the situation if I’m feeling trapped.

Having a consistent support mechanism like that has helped make my panic attacks few and far between. Last night’s was the first time in about 7 months that I’ve had to call him. Being willing to simply listen when someone is panicking and doing that consistently really does help.
